Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this lovable family navigate their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
