From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This means them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.
