The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
