The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
