The second-hand marketplace Members Express Anger About Sizing Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's garments but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Social Media Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to review their products and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Sizing System Modifications
Earlier, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Accounts
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: last year, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options following member complaints.
